Chatting with Positive Outlier Chautauqua Lake Elementary School Kids: New Podcast Alert!
In our latest episode of the NYKids Deep Dive we had the opportunity to talk with a group of 6th-grade students from Chautauqua Lake Elementary: one of the positive outlier schools in NYKids’ latest study.
Chautauqua Lake Elementary School (CLES) is located in western New York in a rural community situated on the shores of the amazing Chautauqua Lake. Serving approximately 300 students, CLES was selected for NYKids’ study as it demonstrated strong performance on ELA and Math scores as well as lower-than-expect rates of student absenteeism.
In our latest podcast, NYKids Graduate Assistants Paul Guay and Joaquín Mateuada spoke with Chautauqua students about their school experience. They shared their big-picture vision for their role in the community and their genuine ambition to make a positive impact.
Some highlights of the podcast include:
- Students’ version of the ideal school experience and why community commitment matters so much to them
- An exploration of students’ recent projects and their future interests
- A closer look at CLES “house system”
- A discussion of how technology is shaping the way students learn
